Smart Washing Machines - the Latest Technology!

We are constantly bombarded with predictions of how life will be lived in the future, but with technological advances arriving on the scene all the time it seems the future will be here more quickly than we thought. For many people, even the most mundane of daily household tasks will be almost unrecognisable within a few short years.

Domestic and commercial appliances have become more technically advanced in recent times, yet their basic functionality has tended to remain the same. Washing machines still use a mixture of detergent, water and agitation to clean our clothes, for example, while refrigerators still utilise low temperatures to ensure our foodstuffs remain fresh and edible.

Recently, however, the prospect of many homes and businesses using a smart washing machine has become ever closer. Until now, the only interactivity between a washing machine and its owner has been the insertion of clothing and the pressing of a power button. It would appear that all of that is about to change in the most dramatic fashion.

And the venue for most of this interactivity is likely to be the screen of the owner’s mobile phone. A recently developed prototype machine can be switched on via the phone and, a little later, it can actually tell the owner that the rinse cycle is about to start and, later still, that the washing and spinning processes are now fully completed.

More technology, more convenience

While this may not sound too ground-breaking to some, the likely improvements in convenience will be very welcome indeed. Soon, we may even be able to tell our smart washing machine to start working while we’re not even in the house at all. For anyone who is already struggling to keep up with a hectic lifestyle, this could be very welcome news indeed.

Any regular user of such appliances will know that it’s important to remove clothing items from the machine as soon as possible, in order to minimise the risk of wrinkles. If the smart washing machine can alert the user when the cycle is about to end, this could prove invaluable. In shared properties, it would be useful for every resident to know when the machine is about to become available.

In the utility rooms and kitchens of the future, the machine could even interact with the home’s other systems. This will mean that one day we will be able to own a smart washing machine that will be able to order further supplies of detergents and fabric softener as and when necessary.
